Staying motivated throughout the semester
As the year draws to a close you may be feeling a decrease in your level of motivation. Here are a few motivational tips that will hopefully fuel your drive to finish the semester successfully.
Think of the bigger picture.
“Even though the future seems far away, it is actually beginning right now. Mattie Stepanek”
Try to remember that you create your own future and the choices you make now affect your future. Studying hard now and finishes your assignments on time will assist you in obtaining your degree which in turn may help you to secure your dream job.
Balance is key.
Your motivation levels may decrease with the stress of assignments and tests. Try to create a balance in your life where you find some time to relax and have fun. Use social events as a motivational tool to finish your assignments before the event.
Take things one step at a time.
If you are feeling overwhelmed by the volume of assignments and tests, try to prioritise your tasks. An effective timetable can be created when you narrow your focus and highlight tasks that are imperative to complete soon. You will feel like you have accomplished and achieved something if you set goals for that week and meet those goals.
Consider the positives.
“If there is no solution to the problem then don't waste time worrying about it. If there is a solution to the problem then don't waste time worrying about it.” – Dalai Lama
Life continues regardless of your current situation so instead of getting stressed out and constantly worrying you must assess the situation and determine the relevant plan of action. Your outlook on life is determined by your mood. If you are depressed, you will have a negative outlook on life however if you are happy and cheerful you will have a positive outlook on life.
Surround yourself with people who will motivate you.
Surrounding yourself with like-minded people can have a dramatic effect on your semester results. This is because if you surround yourself with friends that always do their assignments at the last minute or don’t do them at all; you may eventually fall into that mind-set of not completing your work. A group of friends that are serious about their studies can help keep you motivated throughout the semester.
